His love of Soviet posters and American pin-ups led the artist Valery Barykin to create his own style, Soviet Pin-Up. The artist gives new life to the social posters by adding the images of a frivolous beauty. In doing so, the he makes references to iconic works of Soviet art — from Alexander Deineka to Viktor Popkov, to recognizable Soviet films and everyday life scenes from Soviet reality.
In his work, Valery uses templates: first he makes collages from old photographs, then he redraws them depending on his idea. He often creates completely original works when they are sketched from start to finish. For some projects, photo shoots are arranged, where the scenes are recreated through photos and then turned into artwork by the artist. You can also find a lot of humor, self-irony, and complex themes in his works. His characters show emotions and feel alive.
