Books, Years, Life — a memoir by Natalia Rusova — is an experiment, a compilation of the author’s reading experience, resulting in a whole book. This is not just a regular diary, but an account of a philologist, an admirer of books. Natalia Yurievna Rusova is a Professor of the Department of Russian Language of the Minin Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University, PhD in Pedagogy, philologist.
The book is very intimate. Many mentions of Joseph Brodsky, you can tell, how important his works were to the author. In the narrative, favorite poems and prose are not only closely related to the events of personal and professional life, but also immersed in the political and cultural context. The author has taken it upon herself to preserve the evidence of a forever lost reading culture in the pages of this book.
CYS stands for CREATE YOURSELF. Founded by Ushakova Daria, the project was launched at a difficult time, during the quarantine of 2020. Now the brand is recognizable, with orders coming in from across the country. CYS started out with a single suit, and now has grown to its own production in Nizhny Novgorod. The brand produces collections in a minimalist style with no logos or labels. The thing about the collections is that the designer adapts global trends to everyday life.
CYS has made a name for itself with its casual hoodie and jogger suits. Each season the brand releases a limited collection of basic clothing with a "secret color." Only natural fabrics of the highest quality are used for production. The founder of the brand, Daria, is inspired by the fashion houses Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and her mother’s chic closet.
Called a Garment is a clothing brand, founded in 2020 by Sergey Levin and Ekaterina Bulgakova. The designers were faced with a challenge of designing outfits for creative people around the world. Clothing items are versatile and comfortable. The brand offers a wide range of clothing for different occasions, from basic pieces to unusual items such as kimonos and deconstructed sweaters.
They started out with a limited production of jackets and raincoats, then the clothing range began to expand. The hoodie is the brand’s best-selling product by far and is regularly re-released. Most items are unisex. They don’t have the biggest catalog, but you will always find the essentials: T-shirts with custom prints, trousers, hoodies, longsleeves, insulated jackets, hats, scarves. Called a Garment is an aesthetic street wear with a good fit.
Combez.lab is a clothing brand that makes coveralls. The monobrand was founded in 2021. They make a variety of coveralls for all occasions, from summer parties to skiing. Women’s models combine femininity with an inner strength, and men’s models reflect individuality and courage. The main fabrics used in the production are softshell, knitwear, eco-leather, cotton, nettle.
The first two coveralls were inspired by bright orange and blue work overalls. Combez.lab is a participant of fashion weeks in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. Somewhere down the line, Combez.lab plans to move away from the mono-brand model and begin producing work overalls. One of the goals is to tackle the problem of workwear for women.
DA is a design bureau, founded in 2005. The letters DA stand for design & architecture. The bureau has permits for all types of design work and project design. It is an interdisciplinary team of like-minded professionals that implements approaches based on the cultural and social capital of the place.
The team specializes in high-end projects - from small houses to large municipal buildings and urban planning concepts. The beurau has successfullu completed over 100 residential, municipal and industrial projects, including the remodeling of a sausage factory into a multifunctional building, a hotel in the village of Olgino and the "Metallurg" recreation center in the town of Vyksa.
Decom Publishing House works in the genres of memoir and biography, local history, popular science and metaphysical literature. The books of the publishing house are sold in Russia and around the world. The publishing house has been issuing local history publications (albums, postcards, guidebooks) practically since its founding. Decom collaborates with the leading museums of the city, such as the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory named after M. I. Glinka, Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum and the Russian Museum of Photography.
In cooperation with the Nizhny Novgorod Dobrolyubov State Linguistic University, Decom produced scientific and educational literature on the problems of intercultural communications. Dreamlaser is among the world leaders in the application of multimedia technologies. Founded in 2005 as a laser advertising studio, the company quickly shifted its focus to the event industry, developing such areas as 3D mapping, AR technologies, stage design, and others. Today Dreamlaser provides a full production cycle - from the development of creative concepts and content creation to technical implementation based on its own infrastructure, one of the largest in Russia. Dreamlaser operations are distributed all over the world, but the company is always headquartered in Nizhny Novgorod.
By organizing the annual INTERVALS festival, Dreamlaser showed their love for the city, introducing the best examples of world media art to the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod. In 2020, the festival won the Innovation Prize, a state-funded festival of contemporary art in the category "Regional Project". Dreamlaser also founded and supports the multimedia art space TSEH*, where exhibitions and events related to media art, as well as concerts, lectures and workshops, are regularly held. Among Dreamlaser's projects are the Russian Pavilion at Expo-2020 in Dubai, the laser bridge at the "Circle of Light" festival, the installation "Motherland Calls!" in Volgograd, video mapping at the Bolshoi Theatre, and the show "Mr. Adam" together with the Almaty Symphony Orchestra, which won the Event of the Year award. Dreamlaser is the holder of many awards from ILDA, the International Laser Display Association.
