In 2018, the Central City Youth Library named after M.A. Svetlov launched a unique project to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Ivan Turgenev's birth. It is based on the creation of 3D videos using VR (virtual reality) technology for the stories. The videos bring to life two captivating literary works: "Bezhin Meadow" from the "A Sportsman's Sketches" collection of short stories and "Torrents of Spring" novella. Excerpts from the works are read by famous actors Yuri Kolokolnikov and Aglaya Tarasova.
The idea of the project is to demonstrate how imagination intertwines with reality during the reading process. The VR artist, Denis Semenov, skillfully employed tilt brush technology (that lets you paint in 3D space) to craft virtual literary images and immersive spaces in real-time, guided by the associations and fantasies of the readers. The project resulted in videos and VR tours that bring Turgenev's literary world to life.
